Rachel Carson: Legacy and Challenge, a collection of essays about Carson's work as a writer, scientist, and activist, is just out from SUNY Press. The book is edited by Lisa Sideris and Kathleen Dean Moore. It includes Moore's essay, "The Truth of the Barnacles: Rachel Carson and the Moral Significance of Wonder." Announcing the release of HOW IT IS: The Native American Philosophy of V. F. Cordova, edited by Kathleen Dean Moore, Kurt Peters, Ted Jojola, and Amber Lacy. The late Viola Cordova was an Apache philosopher who earned her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of New Mexico. When she passed on, Cordova's husband asked Moore, her friend and colleague, to "do what you can" to bring her papers to publication. The result is an insightful and inspiring explanation of an Apache woman's worldview and a funny, often angry critique of Western Enlightenment traditions. University of Arizona Press, 2007. |
